The first statement is classic internet hyperbole to show how earnest and strident they are in their internet opinion. The second is telling them to come back to earth now.

You can apply this to any of the standard Gawker Media blog typical commenting types, except instead of someone taking the piss, the first comment gets a million recs.

Ok I got nothing here, Gawker commenters are usually pretty good with being grounded and also that blog is such a mixed bag it’s hard to define “typical.” Something about guns I suppose.
